Tuesday (5/12) evening my wife was stopped at a traffic signal while driving home from work.
A 1987 Ford conversion van rear ended her 2008 Ford Fusion. Police estimate the speed of the
van to be somewhere between 50-60 mph. As a precaution they removed the driver side doors and
support pillar to get her from the car since the doors would not open and did not want to chance
her having neck or spinal injuries. To make a long story short, other than bruises and as you can
imagine being extremely sore 24 hours later, my wife for all practical purposes walked away from
what could have been a tragic circumstance. The car obsorbed the collision and the driver seat
collaped backwards as designed which practically eliminated any serious injuries. We were truely
blessed and thankful for a well designed safety oriented Ford vehicle! The car had a full tank of
gas and even after 16 hours not a single drop of fuel leaked from the car.

WOW! I don't read posts often but I'm glad I read this one...so glad that your wife is okay! Conversion Vans aren't "lightweight" vehicles so getting slamed by one in what I think is a mid-sized car could be catastrophic so it is indeed fortunate she was in a well designed FORD! Hope you get a replacement vehicle with no problems from insurance, police or whatever!

Man Fro, I am so glad your wife came out ok. As you said, truly a blessing. Guess the van dude had his head where it shouldn't have been. My wife has been bugging me to get her a Fusion. If I ever get called back to work that's my first priority. Take care of your better half and keep us updated.

I'm definately glad for you and your wife, both of you are fortunate.

I beleive Ford has the potential of the future to become the industry leader, I've been watching their progress since their losses and their turnaround over the past few years.

OUCH! looking at that car you would think she might have a broken neck, dude I'm glad she "walked away". How was the folks who rammed her? I shutter to think what my 67 would look like after an impact like that, I'm sure I'd be dead. Lots of credit to crumple zone design and plastic gas tanks!
