I just need a suggestion for better speakers that won't cost me an arm and a leg. 

without sending you on a wild goose chase....i would 1st recommend checking with your local stereo shops..sometimes when business is slow they offer crazy deals plus free install...if none conveniently availible you can start here:

i'm not too brand specific or brand biased...some brands work better than others depending on the application...if you just want stock replacements I have had pretty good luck in the past with ebaymotors.

So far I have 2 stangs with gaping holes..(anyone can remove a stereo and say "thats all they have"

...and does it have to be a stang ?  I can shoot a vid of the one in my truck. Its stock, and dont look bad, but doesnt work.
