Shine on, you crazy diamond

Now that I had Sharknado in my hot little hands, the first thing I did was press all the buttons. Manual? What manual!  I can't ignore all these gadgets and menus.  By chance, I found a place to store 0-30 and 0-60 times marked "TRACK ONLY."  Interesting. It's as if they knew what my friends were already asking about. And look! Here's a switch that flips from normal old boring mode to sport and track. This must be what they mean by that warning - make sure the right switch is on first.

The display changed to show an illuminated boost/vacuum gauge, tire pressure, air/fuel ratio... things they knew I'd want to see. I went online to add my phone to the Sync page, and set up Sirius XM.  It wouldn't let me set the gauge and ambient color in the daytime, so I returned later to make the interior lights a glowing magma red. The cupholders even glowed. Much better. Then the car started ringing.

"Haaaayy! Guess where I'm talking to you from?"

"A phone?"

"No, my car's dashboard!"  It doesn't take much to amuse me.

As luck would have it, rain was in the forecast for days. Didn't want to get it all muddy or slide off the road, so performance tests were confined to cranking up the sound system and listening to the exhaust. Which I'm told are the same thing, but I digress. ;-)

I had customized the interior of American Metal, really wishing the whole thing could be transformed into a black and red color scheme. With Sharknado, my wish had been granted. The Ford dealer lot gods had seen fit to bless me with the premier trim with color accent group, including black leather seats with red stitching and red accents (Redline Leather Grain).  Come to find out that gorgeous deep red was an upgrade, Ruby Red Metallic. The cool spider-like wheels were Foundry Black Aluminum.

I'm not even going to try to type the list of "standard equipment included at no extra charge" because it kils me that I paid so much to put a lot of this into my '03 GT, including the now stock horsepower and torque. Actually, no... I'm thrilled that Ford has almost made it unnecessary for me to modify a thing. Almost! Hehehe...

I spent all day yesterday washing off every trace of rain haze and road grime, conditioning the leather and hoping for time to polish it with Liquid Glass. The clouds rolled in, foiling my plans, so I had to take photos at the halfway point and cover it back up. Judging from the way it looked after the dealership's detailing, it's going to be kinda nice-looking . ;-)

My GT was nonaspirated, with every other kind of performance-enhancing doodad put into it over the last 12 years except for a blower or turbo. Those required a big investment, which kept getting eaten up by other things. So I never got to experience a turbocharged Mustang. There were a few moments of dry weather last week, and I did. More on that later!
