4nomore Overhaul: Update #16 odds and ends before installing heads

ok, so I  got my timing chain set installed, and cam sprocket re-torqued (I had to take it back off to do the chain)

I also torqued down the connecting rod bolts, it says 24 ft lbs; but I want to check if that's right for the brand/type I have.

I need to look up and check camshaft end play...

I also need to figure out how to degree the cam...and if I can do this myself or if I need help....errr

Then I need to figure out how I'm going to check piston to valve clearence and if i need to call in a friend to help or not...I may need to buy checking springs.

then I have to figure out what's the best time to measure for the pushrods and the best way to do it.

so; yeah I'm at a point where there's allot of stuff to do and I haven't got a clue what I'm doing.
I'm going to try and get as much of this one this weekend as possible, and if I need help get to the point where I've done everything I can myself and schedule something for next weekend.  this will also give me time to order anything I might need to complete this list of tasks.

You can use clay to check the piston to valve clearance.

ok, found out camshaft endplay doesn't need to be measured when there's a retaining plate, so I'm good there.

piston to valve clearance, yeah I plan to use the clay method...

thunderbolt, did you degree your cam?  or just "go with it as is?"

ok, I called my Dad, he said degreeing a cam with a comp cam brand is not worth the time.

He is prolly right.......my machinist did it while he had the block. Said it was actually one degree off, but that was as close it was gonna get.

Hadn't been able to work on mine much this week, but hopefully I will get going again next week on it.

as for checking pushrod length, I know that trickflow and some other companys make a tool thats you can use that will tell you the length you need. I do not know exactly how to do it but i am sure the tool comes with instructions, or maybe you can download them off of trickflows website.

Get a comp pushrod length checker that is relitively close to what the stock pushrod length is.  I forgot what the measurement is.  If I remember correctly, I just rolled the #1 cylinder to TDC with the tool in place and adjusted it to what i needed.  Some people will say you have to have checker springs to do this, but that tool is actually pretty stout, and can withstand the pressure.  Adjust the tool to where it needs to be and mic its length.  Then you have your pushrod length.

I got a the comp cam adjustable pushrod checker tool

and I also have a friend comming by to help me do this (I'm worried about also setting valve lash and stuff....so I'll get it all done right by a very knowledgable friend)   I'm sure once he shows me then I'll be all set.
