Supercharger installation

updated: Feb 26th 2006 @ 08:52 PM
Screw the order of things! I'm putting these pictures right at the top!

That is the result of the rest of this! I'll get it tuned in a couple weeks and am hoping for 400 rwhp

Day 1: April 11, 2005

Well, I just got a bit of a start tonight after work. I pulled the CAI off, took out the fender liner, and installed the radiator hose extension.

It looks like I'll have to modify the maf/filter bracket a little bit. The holes don't quite line up so I'll be drilling them out a bit.

Getting the filter onto that bracket is a major pain! The filter is made to go onto a 3.5" pipe but the bracket has a 3.75" diameter part for the filter sleeve. I'm glad I have a heat gun to soften the filter sleeve.

Day 2: April 12, 2005

Didn't have time to do much tonight so only 2 pictures

Tomorrow the injectors will have green tops

Lookie at the vortech pulleys on there

I replaced the 2 pulleys on the front cover of the motor and took the studs out of the fuel rail. Tomorrow I'll be swapping injectors and plugs. I'll also start mounting the blower and get my custom pipes all cut to length. I got some autolite 103 plugs and gapped them to .028 tonight.

Day 3: April 13, 2005

It was a productive session even though it didn't start out that way. I had to run around a bunch to get some tools but I ended up getting a few things done.

I changed spark plugs
swapped injectors
installed the head unit
attached the aftercooler
marked a couple pipes to be cut...

looks like the custom blower intake pipe will need some modification. Oh well, no big deal.

On an interesting side note, the xploder decided to not have AC anymore.... the compressor seized up so I'll be getting a different belt tomorrow.

Day 4: April 14, 2005

So I didn't have quite as much time do do a lot today as I had hoped. I did get the exploder running though and a new pair of rear tires on it...

to the supercharger progress.

I got the oil lines run today,
filled up the aftercooler water tank and tested the pump (it worked )
Messed with the intake piping.

Ooooh, it's gettin sooooooooo close

Day 5 and 6: April 15/16, 2005

ok, I was slacking with my update duties last night.... Oh well, here's the last 2 days of progress.

I spent a lot of time getting the parts for the intake to work. I had to chop up that original pipe I made and weld a new 1" bung on there. It's extremely tight getting everything to fit in there. I think I will redo this in the future but it will work for now.

I got the aftercooler water circulation system working and topped off the water tank.

Ran the bypass valve lines. The valve I got actually has 1 1/2" bungs and a 1/4" vacuum line fitting so I had to modify the kit a bit to make everything work. But hey, it was free!

I'll be ordering a 4" to 3.5" reducer sleeve for the maf to the elbow in the fender and probably cut the hole in the fender a bit bigger with the dremel next week so that things aren't so tight. It will come in handy when I set up a 4" power pipe system in the future

and on to the few pics!

The traction control module really gets in the way for the bypass valve. I'm wondering if I can get this module removed since I will be deactivating the T/C anyway.

Day 9: April 19, 2005

Ok, I've been trying to get the belt on there for the last few days and finally got it. Only one pic for this.....

Very useful tool for the belt tensioner! Get one!!!

I ordered parts to make a power pipe and to finish off the hoses for the aftercooler. That stuff ought to finish me off. I'm making a 4" power pipe for only $75. No need to pay $225 for one! Shouldn't be too difficult to make, but fitting it in there could be interesting.

I'll post pictures of that when I get it done and a few in progress pictures.

Day 10: April 20, 2005

Well, I got the piping for the power pipe today along with the adel clamps from mcmaster

I got a good start on the power pipe. Going to weld the fittings on tomorrow and get it powdercoated friday.

Day 11: April 21, 2005

So I finished welding up the pipe today and almost screwed it up pretty bad. I put the breather fittings a bit too close together and couldn't get the hoses on them at first. I had to grind down a bit between them but it fits. Hopefully the powdercoat doesn't make that too difficult.

Anyway, here's a couple pics of it till powdercoat

Day 12: April 22, 2005

I got the boost pipe back from the powdercoater!!!!

It looks purdy

Go back to the top to see the result!

Thanks!

Not sure how it's done on there, I had the guy doing the tuning shut off the traction control

do you have the Xcal 1 or 2?

GOT RANKED. GREAT CAR.

QUESTION: HOW DID YOU YOU DEACTIVATE YOUR TRACTION CONTROL WITH YOUR XCALIBRATOR? I HAVE ONE AND I WOULD LIKE TO INSTEAD OF USING THE BUTTON ALL THE TIME.
