Have a magnet handy and put some type of greese over the spot your drilling so the shavings dont fall in the oil pan

yes, load everything with grease...the punch, tap, and use a heavy duty magnet for added security...i guess thats why im pulling my motor and yanking the pan...i dont trust myself lol.  oops...i may have leaked a hint.

thats correct...you use a punch because it will actually fold the outer edges of the hole into the pan, giving you something to thread with the tap.  Good luck, let us know how it works out for ya.

is the hole large enough?  did the edges fold in properly?  it should thread right in....it will be toght, cuz afterall, you are cutting the metal with each turn...
