Running HOT

I have been noticing that the mustang has been running hot...during normal driving the temp gauge is in the middle between "r" and "m" and then its goes to the "a" and then back to the middle again. When I floor it it will go all the way to the "L" on the temp gauge and then back to middle after I let off for a bit. Is this normal or what could be the problem?

When was your antifreeze last flushed?  Could have a bad thermostat too.

Thermostat, I would change that and go with system flush as well.  Like J said.

Antifreeze was changed about two days system completely emptied out. I just changed the thermostat to a 182 and it seems to be running alot cooler now. normal driving is between "O" and "R" and when I floor it, it runs little past the "M" which is much better then before.

air deflector still on?

The air deflector can be huge.  It possible even with the flush there could be issues with the radiator. So keep an eye on that.

Or... a water pump problem if your problems return.

Was there Rust in the system when you flushed it ?  I had a similar problem when my motor blew up.  The radiator was so far gone it would not flow very well.  And when it finally went it went big the damage was done.

the air deflector is still on...I am going to remove the radiator and get it flushed and also get it checked and am also going to check the water pump. Its weird because the temp goes from the middle to about 1/4 in an instant and it just does that back and forth during regular driving.
