wheel spacers

i want something new on my ride thats not to expensive, and wheel spacers are what i want. I dont know what size i need for my 99 gt  and i was hearin that i cant put them on if i have stock wheels. Any suggestions, im all ears.

the only "rumor" i have heard (i say rumor because i havent seen with my own eyes nor experienced myself) but i heard not to get them if your going to be doing a lot of racin because its weaker. not sure bout the stock rims part though.

i got them on the rear with 17 by 9 rims. nothing wrong with it , it`s super tight and give me a relly nice look. I have tried 1.5 inch and they where a little too wide, touching the fenders when had somebody siting in the back. Now i have 1.25 inch and they are perfect.
