2 years ago when I did the 2.3 to 5.0 swap I had to change the fuel lines so I had installed stainless steel fuel lines which will last forever. Since then I've been plagued with fuel leaks.
2nd day on the road as a 5.0
Leak #1 -Rubber hose portion of my new stainless lines were installed wrong by a moron and my tire rubbed a hole until it leaked.
8 months later
Leak #2 -half-ass clamp'd fix losened and leaked; had the rubber portion replaced by a russel braided line using a flare on the hard line (done by a shop I trust)
Early Last fall (07)
Leak #3 -Fuel Pressure regular leaked, replaced FPR with J's help in our garage
Late last fall (07)
Leak #4 -leak fron the return line where the rubber line connects to the hard line (this is the return side vs the supply line that was fixed with braided line)
Ok, so here I am again needing to fix a fuel leak...by now I'm so pissed off from leaking fuel that I can't even beleive the car hasn't caught fire at this point. My shop that fixed my supply side is now closed...I decided to fix the return side the same way the shop fixed by other side by cutting and flare the end and use AN fittings and russel braided line.
I purhcased a 37 degree flare tool and I'm trying to get stainless steel line to practice my skills at flaring before attempting. I hope I can fix it....and I hope it never leaks again- I've had enough of this....but at least I won't have any more rubber connecting lines near the front of the car anymore...now everythig will be hardline or braided hose with good AN fittings!
