Im 18 and a senior in high school and I have a very important decision ahead of me. College or Air Force. I was pretty set on college but today I sat through a presentation from an Air Force recruiter and it sounds awesome but I know they just sugar coat everything. So any one who has been in the AF or has a family member in the AF would you please enlighten me on your experience with them. Any input would be awesome. Thanks.

You have to have very very good vision to be a pilot..

Depends what your field is.  I decided to work and get exp and get a degree at the same time.  I support our troops fully, its just not for me.

You cannot enlist and fly anything.  Your recruiter does not tell you jack its his job to get you to the guidance or job counselor who wants to put you were they need you not what you want to be doing.  You read everything in writing that is all you are getting regardless of what anyone says.  The air force is techies so if you are a hard charger go elsewhere.  That said it can be lots of fun, pay is decent, you can get trained in a good skill while getting paid and you get  to do stuff you never will find in the civilian sector.  Go lots of places also especially in the AF.

The Amry even has an entire online program and will give you a laptop, you just have to stay in college.

Well I have an idea. Why dont you do both? Go to the academy and become an chair force.....whoops air force officer, or the navy or the Marines. You get your college paid for and get to serve your country as well. I think the Air Force has billets that are not pilots. They have to but they do have some kick ass jets if you decide to go that way. Just my .02

Go Airforce if you like to be clean and neat. You get to stay in hotels life is great in the Airforce. Army....met for some who like it dirty, walk everywhere with heavy loads on your back. You never stay in a hotel. A tent or a warm building if you lucky. That also depends on your job specialty too. I know Army guys and gals who have the same life as the Airforce with cool ass job specialties. That depends on you of course.

Hey Keith, My Brother was Security Police in the Airforce for 8 years.  If you are interested I could hook you up to talk to him.  He is now a PA State Police Officer - Liquor Control Enforcement in the Scranton area so if you end up still going to ESU look out for him!!!  Also you could check out http://www.airforcesecuritypolice.com/

airforce is a good direction now only for today but for the days ahead of you, retirerment and benefits, but also when you come out there is alot of things they will grabe you first before any other in the real world, also if you like homeland security the marine and air branch is awesome and you also can  get to fly and make alot of money doing it, if you like i can get you the web address for that, homeland security like them young and bro nothing like working for the us goverment retirement comes real early and the money is very nice.

I enlisted right after high school cuz I wasnt sure what I wanted to do after graduation as well. The Air Force indeed is quite something else. There is nothing like it, and you will see, if you join of course, how great the lifestyle can be. Me personally? I love it. It was one of the greatest decisions Ive made. Pay is good. College classes are definately around. Housing and lifestyle is unreal. The benfits are truely remarkable. At least do one term, just to get a little extra push into the real world like I did, youll learn so much on how to live on your own. I mean, I definately have, and I know for sure its going to help me out A TON once I get out. =]
