My donor engine:
'83 Mustang GT 302 (EOAE D3C)
Mostly stock except an after market cam. Came with brand new lifters, timing chain, oil pump, original Ford intake (RF E3ZE 9425 FD), solid engine mounts, and "Powered by Ford" valve covers. Unknown mileage on the engine. |

Two Sundays and I had it tore down to the bare block. Not too sure what parts from the engine I am going to keep, so I have everything cataloged and bagged on my garage floor.
Next, I will drop it off with Jackson Auto Machine shop for a cleaning and testing to make sure the block is safe to use. |

Well come to find out the block I bought has a split bolt-hole. The guys at Jackson Auto noticed it when they were pressure testing it. Looks like a bolt sheered off inside and someone tried to get it out or use a bigger bolt.
End result is still the same, I can't use this block. So my search begins again to find another...

Donor block #2.
302 from a '74 Ranchero.
Casting info: (D4DE 6015 8A 6L17)
Disassembly this week. Lets hope the block looks good after everything has been removed. |

Well, another block for the county dump. I knew I was in trouble
as soon as I pulled off the oil pan and saw a loose stud and nut up
near the oil pump. Then I got the real shocker when I followed down
the crankshaft to see this!
Looks like the connecting rod broke off and just beat itself against the crank and engine block.
I informed my seller about this and he was gracious enough to offer to take this one back and find me a replacement!

Block #3: Ford 302 '70's era
Casting info: (D10E-6015-AA 22)
The third block that I have now touched. This one arrived at my garage already dissassembled and ready to go to the machinist.
Visual inspection leads me to believe that I may finally have a winner here! |
