The Snowballing begins...

updated: Aug 15th 2005 @ 02:21 PM
.....I already had purchased an HP Performance 60mm intercooled Turbo kit. And I had pretty much decided to go with a 306. But, as luck would have it, I came across a great deal on a 331 kit. It was a brand new kit with an Eagle 4340 "0" balance crank, Eagle 4340 H-Beam rods and Probe froged dish top pistons. So, I bought it. Then I found a great deal on some used, fully ported and o-ringed Trick Flow Twisted Wedge aluminum heads. So, I bought those too. I was a little worried about block splittage if I used a stock block with the turbo and any kind of significant boost. So I started looking at options. I wanted a Dart or R block, but with this car being mostly a street car, the cost didn't seem feasible. So, a friend had a Mexican 302 block that I was able to talk him out of. For those that don't know, a Mexican block has thicker main caps, thicker main webbing and thicker cylinder sleeves. Which translates into a much stronger block. It has been compared to a Sportsman block as being as strong or stronger. Here's some pics of the parts....

Here's a little helper on how to make sure a block is a Mexican. Look in the lifter valley and you should see this....

Here's a pic of the mock-up of the turbo kit on the stock motor in order to mark where holes need to go......
