I got pulled over....

	1021 Views I got pulled over a couple of nights ago. When the officer got to my car he asked if I knew why I was getting stopped. Being in a stang I answered honestly and said that I was going to fast. He said no. I pulled you over because your exhaust system is too loud. I did take off fast from a light and it was right around 11 pm and cold out so you know all that just makes everything louder that normal. Anyway. He told me that I running an Illegal exhaust system on my car. He said that in the state of Va. the exhaust system has to stay OEM. He only gave me a verbal warning and said that he had added to my license plate that I was told that I needed to change my exhaust back to stock and that I could get pulled over at anytime to get checked. I know that in the state of CA you have to have stuff that is CARB exempt to be legal and very thing that I have on my car is legal headers, H-pipe with cats and flow master mufflers. Dose anyone know if this is true? If it happens again I'm going to be nice and take the ticket then fight it in court.

“” Another point is if he tells you it has to stay OEM, which stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer, you can say Ford stops making parts for their cars after 10 years. At the lastest you could have gotten OEM exhaust was 2003. If you want to technical, everytime you did maintainence i.e. change the oil, sparkplugs it would make every car on the road illegal, even the police cars that have had anything done to them would be considered illegal.

“” I had the same thing happen to me... Mind you I have flowmaster 40 series. Legal. But the State Trooper didnt like my spiked hair. So he said I needed to return them to factory. I still have the flowmasters. If he thought it was that illegal he would have given me a court date.

“” I think i would look up the manufacturers of all the exhaust parts and see if they say something like street legal in all states or OEM replacements .. if they do then i would print that out and keep it to take to the judge if needed .. might give you enough ammunition to beat a ticket .. might want to keep it in the car too incase you get stopped again .. i agree with being polite tho .. i have beat a couple of tickets that way

“” unfortuneately, a HUGE percentage of all aftermarket exhaust parts, including mufflers and the such have mfg warnings that they are for "off road use only" which technically makes them illegal.

“” i run Mac 1 5/8 shorties, 2.5" O/R H pipe & 2.5" Flowmaster cat back w/ 2 chambers & 3.5" polished tips & have never been hassled but then again, like Nicole, i am in NH. this exhaust has been on my car for 8 years now. however, when ever in my red mustang i am on the never ending hunt for the police to avoid hassle. my last 2 tickets years ago i fought & won. dont take that BS! fight it! what have you got to lose right? that was my frame of mind & both times i called the bluff & won.
