Buying new 2011 Mustang????

Figured i'd make a blog chronicling my thoughts on this subject.  I want to make sure im an active member on this wonderful board.
Figured I'd make a nice blog to read.  Please be prepared for the wall of text.

So, the background is, currently I'm an S197 V6 owner.  It's my first mustang and the introduction into the mustang world.  Well of course the "bug"  bit me and after a while I started want to mod the car.  Everything from Cold Air Intakes, Pulleys, Dual Exhaust conversions, Throttle Bodies, Gear and rear-end swap to finally a supercharger, be it Paxton, Vortech, or Explorer Xpress.  You name it, I planned to do it.  I love the Mustang brand and threw myself into the culture.

When the news of the new engines broke, I decided that I would own a new Mustang regardless.  It became a decision of V6 vs V8.  Obviously, to most people, the choice is easy.  But, like the generation before it, with the right mods, a V6 can easily OUTPERFORM a STOCK V8 in handling and power for close to, if not less than the price of a new V8.  (See Newtakeoff.com's project car).  Couple that fact with I was really looking forward to the 2014 mustang just to see what Ford would cook up for the 50th year anniversary.

Well herein lies a question I ask myself.  When the new cars roll out this spring, the V8 mustang will boast a 412hp engine.  (As im sure you all know).  I anticipate the cost of a fairly loaded coupe to be about $33k. - $35k.  Well, I've seen GT500's for ABOUT that price.  (Used of course. With fairly low miles).  And yes, as many of you proved, a properly modded GT can outperform a stock GT500.

But the key here is, the cars will be the same price.  And modding a car like the new GT's will probably put the car into the mid to high 40's, which is out of my range.  So, what would you guys do if you were in the market for a new stang?  Go with the 305hp V6?  The 412hp V8?  or the 6yr - 8yr old GT500?  Decisions, Decisions.  Remember.  This is coming from a V6 owner.    Hope you guys enjoyed the long read.

The new V6 is nothing to overlook, I think its all a matter of preference, what do YOU want? Do you like the V6, or do you like the V8? after you decide then its to the point of which can you afford? In my case I want a new SVT Raptor, but there is no way that I can afford to make payments in the deadline by when I want one, so Ill probably end up buying a used lightning.

More or less its up to what you prefer, then factor in price. If you absolutely want a new 2011 5.0, then price one out and make a plan to how you will achieve it. Even if you don't want a V8, or can't afford it, then look at a V6. Me personally never really cared for a V6 stang (nothing wrong with them, just personal preference), but this new one is going to be insane. I would gladly drive a new V6, especially with the track pack being available, 6 speed manual, 305 HP...yea it will scoot!

I agree the new V6 for the 2011 is gona be a screamer compared to what weve had for ever as a v6 engine ..I cant wait to see it on the road ...:-D

I'm waiting to get my hands on the new V6 and see what it will really do. If I like it them the wife wants one. For my personal taste I want to see what Roush is going to do to the 5.0 engine. If it turns out to be a real hotrod them I'm going to spring for a new Roush Stage 3.

Being the "spoiler" I am, let me throw some other things into the mix (LOL)! Ford will have a new 6.2L in their 2011 F-150! If that turns out to be the performer I think it will, then I'll bet we'll see that engine in a "special edition" Mach-1, GT-600 or ? and Livernois, Dart, et al, will soon have a "STROKER" version offered. I wonder if that 6.2L (which should be about 378 ci) might be strokable to 427 ci?!! That would give us a chance to go head to head with either "Obama Motor's" LS-6 or LS-7! If Ford then offered a Supercharged or Turbocharged 6.2 it could go head up against the LS-9 (assuming the Socialists in power at Obama Motors continue any production of performance cars)!

you really wouldnt need anything more than the v6 of the 2011s, i mean 305 hp and 30 mpg..  but you will never have the v8 sound and as i noticed when i had my v6, most people wont respect the car as much..

Cubes rule. Period!

Handling? let's just say you get what you pay for.

The reason a Corvette is so f'n expensive is because of the performance. IT WAS BUILT FROM THE GROUND UP THAT WAY. Unless you are buying the GT 500 ..Mustangs are a dime a dozen and are Ford's answer to GM and Chrysler's Pony cars. Every guy/girl in my shop has one in various years and performance packages. I only know 3 people who own a vette made within the last 5 years. They come in 2 flavors. Fast and Faster. quarter mile is one thing...anyone can take any car and mod it to go fast in a straight line....the Vette will not only go straight fast...but i will tear up a stang's ass in handling BONE STOCK!

Why do you think there are waaaaay more aftermarket mods available to the Mustang?

If you were to mod your V6 Stang to match a stock Vette in speed and handling your bottom line cost would just about match the cost of the stock vette.

When I went on the local road course I was more than a match for a Vette who slid off the couse trying to stay up with my Roush & two Porsche 911s. I passed the 911s on the inside of the sharpest curve and those drivers came over afterwards to see what I had in my 'Stang - they were flabergasted that my "big ol' Detroit Iron could hold a line inside their Porsches then leave 'em in the dust on the straight. It is interesting that in a competion last year a young lady in a basically stock S-197 won the overall vs. a race-prepped Vette, hot rod Camaro, Dodges & several other cars that were supposed to be faster"! While the 'Vette won the road course, a 350 Z almost beat it & the S-197 did well there and won or finished high in most other events.

Then I would place more credit on the skills of the driver than the performance of the car. Obviously if it was "race prepped" than the driver was having a bad day.

An Argument based on the performance of 1 race day at 1 track against 1 vette. VS a Roush equipped Stang which is far from stock adding $$$ to the overall cost of Stang bringing it real close to stock vette prices. Price a Roush against a Vette and see for yourself. Its not the same but close. Roush is an add-on same as Shelby. They don't roll off the line that way.

($43,071 out the door, including the base Mustang GT).

$44,526 for base model Vette coupe

point is my friend... the Vette is BORN this way. The Roush has to aspire from a GT to meet or beat it. Isn't that why we are here?

I didn't pay anything close to $40K for my Roush & on a budget I've got a pretty good road car & my son's 02 is known as the Z06 Killer for half the price of a regular Vette!  When Ford puts their new 6.2 in a Mach-1 I think the Vettes won't see much more than there tailights (again for half the price)!

Don't pay those inflated prices, do what I did, wait until the car you want has been on the showroom floor for a year, tell 'em you'll give 'em 34.5K if they trade their Pimp 22's for stock rims, I replaced them with Forged GT5 AR 19's & P-Zero Sticky Tires! Then mod it your way, even with the Livernois Stroker, T-6060 & ProCharger-D it didn't cost 50K. It helps to have a friends who paints for the materials, then you have a roomy 'STANG modded your way, not a sardine can 'Vette!  If you WANT a Vette you'd best get it now, cause the idiot Obama made GM CEO will likely limit "performance" in future years (can you say "Hybrid"?) LOL

My cousin own a 72 Vette with the 454 and loves it in the Winter but it overheats so badly he can't drive it in the Summer, but it is a sweet looking classic! My favorite was the 57 and I've seen kits that make the last edition look a little like the older classics but if you ever saw an 54 Oldsmobile F-88 I'll bet you'd love it even more. One sold for 3M at Barrett-Jackson a few years ago, but Chevy told GM to kill the Old's version!

You know...I just thought about something...if you got your Roush for nearly half the price only a year later....Re-sale value for those sux balls! Looking at the numbers here... The Vettes hold their value much longer.... wtf is that all about???

IMHO, it's either great PR or brain washing take your pick! Ford had it's GT-40 & Cobra both of which ran rings around Vettes, yet never received the accolades from Hot Rod, Car & Driver, et al, "Mainstream Magazines" (which seem to me to be in GM's pocket no matter the make or model). When I wrote and took photographs for another (not so main stream mag) I did my best to showcase Fords, MOPARS & even a few foreign models...not just GM brands. I got so sick of SBC 350s that I wouldn't take a photo of a car with one unless it was VERY unusual. Back in my day, hotrods & customs had many different makes of engines, Caddy, Olds, Lincoln, Packard, Studebaker & Ford Flatheads (43 Merc's were favored & a few Lincoln V-10 Flatheads). My brand was Oldsmobile...1949-69 not much would pass 'em. But GM turned 'em into "an old folks home" then KILLED 'EM, now GM has killed Pontiac, sold Hummer to CHINA & is selling Saturn! My guess is that Buick & GMC Truck will be next (they'll likely make "GMC" a model of Chevy Truck like "Silverado"
! Now that the Feds run GM, I don't give "Obama Motors" much chance for prolonged health and sadly MOPAR's future is also in doubt!

If you ask me? the BIG 3 got EXACTLY what they deserved. Unions out lived their purpose...great for the 60's & 70's ...they are a leach now.....CEOs making far more then they were EVER worth minus Lee Iacoca... Not to mention Over inflated prices to pay for it all...so it was only a matter of time.

I won't disagree that Unions may have been a good thing at the turn of the last Century (late 1800s until maybe the 1930's) but I think they turned into corrupt money grabbers (kinda' like our politicans). Now, with their support of Obama & his hinchmen they have sown the wind & are lossing jobs by the thousands! Yes, many CEOs have given themselves undeserved raises as well as "Golden Parachutes" (kinda' like our politicians have)! I'd like to see less government - its the problem not the solution!
